California Architectura

California Architectura

  • Description
This work represents Vernon’s dream house with bright walls inviting entry, evocative of the classic two-thirds/one-third composition portrayed in Southern California architecture. It emphasizes light to smooth surfaces as well as shadows revealing imperfections, symbolizing the façade of the Hollywood star system versus reality. The cool pink sky thickening into an orange veil alludes to the artist’s fascination with California, capturing both the allure of the American Dream and a nuanced acknowledgment of the state’s cyclical wildfires.

Vernon Bio

Artist

Vernon

Inspired by Harry Bertoia, Alexander Calder and Sol LeWitt, Vernon infuses his sculptures with movement while capturing the humanity of his characters through simple form. Committed to nature and history, he carves bases from 17th-century stones and 18th-century timber, and his Architectura painting series employs 17th-century Flemish glazing techniques to create minimal, abstract and colorful paintings, reflecting his dedication to anonymity as a kind of contemporary freedom.
