Designer Jeremy Wintrebert for HOLLY HUNT

JMW Studio was founded in 2015 by Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert, an internationally acclaimed glass blower known for large-scale illuminated sculptures and installations.

Born in Paris, with a childhood spent in Africa, Wintrebert is a passionate advocate for preserving the art of glass blowing. The location of his street-level atelier, in an 1850s viaduct in Paris, was specifically chosen to enable passers-by to catch glimpses of the magic happening within. Here, the studio’s small yet highly specialized team realizes Wintrebert’s original designs in free-blown glass, using age-old techniques that he mastered while apprenticing at esteemed glass studios worldwide, including Dale Chihuly in Seattle and Davide Salvadore in Murano.

Each functional sculpture produced by JMW Studio is created using these timeless techniques in a highly choreographed, intensely physical dance with a material the temperature of an active volcano. The resulting one-of-a-kind pieces are captivating works in sensual shapes, sophisticated accents that seamlessly integrate in a range of interiors. As a nod to his youth, the packaging of each lamp includes yards of brightly colored traditional African wax cloths.

Cartier, Calvin Klein and the Four Seasons Hotels are just a few of the luxury brands who have commissioned works from JMW Studio. Pieces from the studio have also been widely exhibited, most notably at the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Palais de Tokyo and MusVerre. In 2019, Wintrebert was the recipient of the Liliane Bettencourt Prize pour l’intelligence de la main®, awarded to those who demonstrate exceptional expertise, creativity and innovation in French craft.
